Recipe
Ingredients for DIY Ritz Crackers
2 cups Flour
3 tsp Baking Powder
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 Egg
1 tsp Salt
8 Tbsp Butter cold
2 Tbsp Oil
1/3 cup Water

Directions for DIY Ritz Crackers
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Line a Baking Stone or Rimmed Baking Sheet with parchment paper, then set aside.
Parchment paper helps to keep the crackers easier to remove from the baking stone.

3. Add the blade attachment to the bowl of a Cuisinart Food Processor. Using a food processor to make this dough is the easiest way to blend the butter through the dough.

4. To the bowl of a Cuisinart Food Processor, measure and then add 2 cups Flour, 2 tsp Baking Powder, 1 Tbsp Sugar, 1/2 tsp Salt and process for 10 seconds.

5. Cut 6 Tbsp COLD butter into 1/4-inch cubes and then add the butter to the processor. Reserve 2 Tbsp for later.

6. Pulse the processor to combine 6 Tbsp butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles pea-sized crumbles.

7. Slowly add the 2 Tbsp Oil through the tube and process to mix.

8. Slowly add the 1/3 cup Water through the tube and process to combine until a dough ball forms.
The dough, when done, will form together and pull away from the sides of the bowl.

9. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and roll out as thin as possible, using a rolling pin. Preferably 1/8-1/4 inch thick.

10. Using a cookie cutout, or a small cup, cut out the cracker shapes and then transfer them to the parchment lined baking stones.

11. Crack an egg into a small bowl, whisk with a fork, then brush the tops of all of the crackers with the egg.

12. Pole holes in each cracker, 2, 3 and 2. This is easiest with the point of a chopstick. If no chopstick, use a fork or knife. Don’t be afraid to poke through the crackers as it can help them bake evenly.

13. Sprinkle the tops with coarse salt.

14. Bake the DIY Ritz Crackers for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Cook an additional minute or two if they are not done. Make sure the crackers are browned evenly before taking them out of the oven. If removed too soon, they will be chewy and not cracker-like.

15. Melt 2 Tbsp butter in a microwave safe bowl, to be used to top the crackers.

16. Remove the crackers from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter immediately or rub the butter directly onto the crackers.

17. Transfer the crackers to a cooling rack while still warm.

18. Cool the DIY Ritz Crackers on a cooling rack complete before serving. Store the DIY Ritz Crackers in an airtight container.
