These soft sugar cookies are delicious and oh-so sweet. With a simple Sugar Cookie Recipe, topped with sprinkles, these Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies are a go-to recipe.
Why make these sprinkle cookies?
There are many reasons to make sugar cookies.
But does one really NEED a reason?!
Sugar cookies are delicious as an after-school snack, great for a weekend snack, get together or party. These Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies are the perfect dessert to bring to an event or for a holiday cookie exchange.
As far as cost goes, this recipe is by far cheaper than buying those bakery-bought cutouts around the holidays that run quite expensive. And to be frank, those can be hard and NOT chewy.
Now, this sugar cookie recipe is soft, chewy and FULL of flavor. You will be asked to bring them to every event, you’ll be the star of the show when you lay these Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies on the table.
Holiday Cookie Exchange
A Holiday party or cookie exchange is the perfect event to bring these cookies. The aesthetic is fun, and the sprinkles can be tailored to fit the need of ANY event.
Birthday party? Sprinkles.
Christmas? Red and green sprinkles.
Easter? Rainbow or pastel sprinkles.
Halloween? Orange and black sprinkles.
4th of July or Memorial Day? Red, white and blue sprinkles.
Valentine’s Day? Red, white and pink sprinkles.
St. Patrick’s Day? Green and white sprinkles.
New Years Eve? Silver and gold sprinkles.

Truly, these cookies can be customized to fit ANY occasion that you need a quick and easy dessert recipe to bring. Sprinkles are such a fun way to decorate not only sugar cookies. You can also have rainbow sprinkle cupcakes, rainbow sprinkle birthday cake, and funfetti sugar cookies. Check out this fun variety 6-pack of sprinkles on Amazon, great for Yellow Autumn, Rainbow Color, Blue Snowflakes, Mini Hearts, Colorful Numbers, Patriotic Stars. Red, blue, pink, green, yellow, brown, white colors.
Not just a circle
Sugar cookies do NOT always have to be a circle.
Seriously! You can even make mason jar cookies. How awesome is that?!
I wish someone would have told me this in my childhood. Or at least early adulthood. It would have saved many hours of agony, deciding and contemplating the vast facets of cookies.
Today, you can find a cutout shaped into ANYTHING you want. For instance, a few years ago I was gifted a set of 101 Cutouts for Christmas. The set includes Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Numbers, Letters and more. There are small shapes, there are large shapes and there are shapes that don’t even make sense. Like the triangle. I won’t reign on the triangle’s parade, and maybe one day it will be used.
Go ahead and make those sugar cookies shaped like a tree, or a mouse or cloud. In fact, so many designer bakeries are jumping on that design bandwagon and making the most adorable cookies to fulfill whatever desire you have.
There is even a tooth cutout. Seriously! Check it out!!!
Recipe
Ingredients for Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
1 cup Butter
1 cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
2 Tbsp Milk
3 cups Flour
1 cup Rainbow Sprinkles

Directions for Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
1. In the bowl of a KitchenAid mixer, add 1 cup Butter and 1 cup Sugar.
To help the process, cut the butter into 1/4-inch-thick cubes.

2. Cream the butter and sugar until soft.
3. Add 1 Egg, 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract and mix until just combined.
Last year I made Homemade Vanilla Extract. With only two ingredients, and quite a lot of patience, you too can make it yourself. Check out my blog for Homemade Vanilla Extract HERE!

4. Measure and then add 2 Tbsp Milk, then mix again.

5. To the butter mixture, measure and then add 3 cups Flour, 1/2 tsp Salt, 1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar and 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder.

6. Add the paddle attachment, plug in the mixer and then mix on LOW until combined.
7. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides, if needed, then continue to blend the ingredients together.
8. Remove the paddle attachment and then remove the bowl from the mixer. Place the Sugar Cookie dough, wrapped in plastic wrap, in the refrigerator and chill for 30 minutes.

9. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
10. Remove the dough from the refrigerator.
11. Flour a clean surface and then turn out the Sugar Cookie dough onto the surface.
12. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thick.

13. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the shapes.

14. Place the cut-outs onto a Baking Stone, 2 inches apart. Sprinkle the tops of the cut-outs with Rainbow Sprinkles.
Baking stones are a favorite to use while baking cookies. The result is a soft and chewy crumb with a nonstick surface. Check out my favorites, from Pampered Chef, by clicking HERE or the link below.

15. Bake the cookies in the oven for 8-12 minutes, or until just slightly brown on the edges. DO NOT OVERBAKE!

16. Remove the Baking Stone from the oven.

17. Rest the Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies on the baking stone for 5 minutes.
Just be patient to try to not eat them while cooling!

18. Use a spatula to remove the cooled Sugar Cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Enjoy eating these delicious and soft Rainbow Sprinkle Sugar Cookies!
