Picking berries is one of my favorite things to do. At our old house, we had a huge raspberry patch and could save multiple gallon-sized bags of raspberries each season. We also like to pick cherries and blueberries. I have a bad habit of over-picking and end up freezing fruit, so we have it available through the winter. Recently, Tyler wanted me to make something with the berries, so they do not go bad. Are you guilty of holding onto frozen food too long like me? I sure do not like to waste food. To use some of the berries in our freezer, I decided to make a Three Berry Crumble. This recipe is easy to make and so delicious!

What you will need
Making a fruit crumble is super easy. All you need is some simple pantry ingredients, fruit, a 9 X 13-inch baking dish, and a hunger for a delicious dessert. The Three Berries that were used in this dessert included raspberries, blueberries and cherries. As a result, this Crumble was sweet, tart, full of flavor and a win with the Riske family after dinner tonight!
The basis of a crumble is fruit, butter and flour for the topping, with a few other ingredients mixed in. Using a large baking dish is essential, as you will want to spread out the fruit and topping so it can bake evenly. If you want to make a thicker crumble, I recommend try making it into two separate 4 X 8-inch pans, mainly because you want the topping to bake and get crispy while still cooking the fruit base.
Making a fruit crumble depends on what fruits you have on-hand. For example, peaches, raspberries, cherries, blueberries, cherries and apples are great choices as they have excess moisture in the fruit that helps to create the delicious sauce. The fruit juices also rise up to the oats and help to flavor them and cook them to a nice crispy topping.
To make the perfect crumble topping, the base is melted butter and oats. Personally, using Old Fashioned Oats is the way to go. Old Fashioned Oats stay together while baking, gives the crumble a firmer topping and provide a nuttier flavor when cooked.
Three Berry Crumble Recipe
9 X 13-inch baking dish
6 cups fruit, fresh or frozen
4 Tbsp corn starch
4 Tbsp white sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup Old Fashioned Oats, uncooked
1 cup flour
4 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
Three Berry Crumble Directions
1. Spray a 9 X 13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray and then set aside.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
3. Place 1/2 cup butter in a Pyrex microwave safe bowl and then melt in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. When done, remove from the microwave and set on the counter. I like using a large glass measuring bowl, as it is microwavable and then can be used to mix in the crumble ingredients.
Storing dry ingredients in an air-tight container helps to keep your pantry staples fresh longer. They have way more options online than you could ever find in a store. Plus, who doesn’t love free shipping?!
4. Into the melted butter, add 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats and then stir to combine.
Watch out for the kids, if you have any, because they will thief the fruit as you try to make the dessert. Not that we will ever stop our kids from eating fruit… but still… you’d think Matthew would wash his hands before digging into the dish. Oy.
5. Stir in 1 cup flour to the butter and oats mixture in the Pyrex measuring bowl until combined.
After he was forced to wash his hands, Matthew then came to help me stir the flour into the Old-Fashioned Oats. He even agreed to let me take his picture! How cool is that?! As a result, there are quite a few pictures of Matthew in this post.
But seriously, Matthew is our middle son and HATES having his picture taken! To have him allow me to take his picture, asking, “are you going to blog me?” was just the cutest.

6. Into the oats and flour mixture, add 4 Tbsp brown sugar and 1 Tbsp cinnamon. Then mix well.
Letting our kids help make food is the best, because I want them to be able to cook when they leave our house one day. Hopefully. As much as I could make this dessert and have it in the oven in half the time, allowing the kids to help creates fun memories and skills for a lifetime.
7. Place 6 cups of fruit, fresh or frozen, into the 9 X 13-inch prepared baking dish.
In our freezer, we had bags of frozen blueberries, raspberries and cherries. In the last few years, we went cherry picking in Door County, Wisconsin. We also picked blueberries at a local farm, and the raspberries were from our old garden.
*Pro Tip* To freeze fruit, you do not need to cook it ahead of time. Just make sure to wash it really well, drain it, and place a piece of wax paper on a rimmed baking sheet. Then, lay the washed fruit on the wax paper in a single layer and place the dish into the freezer. Once frozen, you can then lift the wax paper and pour the frozen fruit into a gallon-sized freezer bag, having freeze the fruit on a sheet you can scoop out the fruit as you need it.
8. Sprinkle 4 Tbsp corn starch onto fruit.
The corn starch will work with the fruit juices to make it not runny, but nice and thick.
9. Sprinkle 4 Tbsp sugar onto the fruit. Then, stir to blend in the corn starch and sugar into the fruit. As a result, the sugar will help to cut down on the tartness of the berries.

10. Top the fruit with the oat mixture. Press down with your hands or a flat-bottomed pan.
11. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is browned and crispy.
Let cool for 10 minutes before eating. Trust me, the fruit juices will be HOT! Finally, serve this Three Berry Crumble with some delicious French Vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

- 9 X 13-inch bake dish
- Non-stick spray
- Microwave Safe Bowl
- 6 cups Fruit mixed
- 4 Tbsp Corn Starch
- 4 Tbsp Sugar
- 1/2 cup Butter melted
- 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats
- 1 cup Flour
- 4 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon
- Spray a 9 X 13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray and then set aside.

- Place 6 cups of fruit, fresh or frozen, into the 9 X 13-inch prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle 4 Tbsp corn starch evenly onto fruit.
- Next, measure and add 4 Tbsp sugar onto the fruit.
- Then, stir to blend in the 4 Tbsp corn starch and sugar into the fruit.
- Top the fruit with the oat mixture.
- Finally, press down on the crumble topping with your hands or a flat-bottomed pan.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is browned and crispy.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before eating.
