Favorite Desserts
By far, brownies are my favorite dessert. Brownies in ice cream, with whipped cream, warm, cold, by themselves, and with caramel.
However, wanting to eat brownies with needing to have them without gluten is important for my health restrictions as of late. If you are also needing a gluten free recipe, this Gluten Free Brownies recipe is just for you.
You can also make this recipe with any variations you desire. You can add chocolate chips, caramel, white chocolate chips or more.
An alternative for brownies can also be S’mores Brownies. This recipe, however, is not Gluten Free so make sure you alter the recipe to fit that when you make them yourself.
Don’t need Gluten Free? Perfect! Here is a recipe for Fudgy Brownies from Scratch that are soft and oh-so incredibly delicious. Check out the recipe below.
Vanilla Extract
When you are living a Gluten Free lifestyle, there are many things that have to change. Making sure that EVERY food item in your house is Gluten Free is the first step. When this journey began for us, it was months before I realized that there were many food items that were still being used that contained gluten.
The first was seasonings and spices. Not all of them are Gluten Free. In fact, many spice blends contain milk, wheat or soy to act as anti-caking agents. Some of the spices and blends that were thrown away were Italian Seasoning Blend, Paprika, Cumin, Lawrie’s, Turmeric, and Nutmeg.
If you are Gluten Free, check your spice cabinet!
Another baking item that won’t be used anymore in our kitchen is the Burbon Vanilla Extract that I made a few years ago. I made two different kinds of homemade vanilla extract, which is quite easy to do. However, Bourbon is NOT Gluten Free. Vodka is, which makes for a good Vanilla Extract base.
How do you make Homemade Vanilla Extract? Check out my blog for the directions to make it yourself. Trust me, this is the BEST vanilla you will ever try, and it is so fresh and fragrant. Click the link below for all the details.
Gluten Free Brownies Recipe
Gluten Free Brownies Ingredients
- 2/3 cups Oil
- 2/3 cups Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 cup Gluten Free Flour
- 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 3 Eggs
- 2/3 cups Brown Sugar
- 1 1/3 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 tsp Gluten Free Vanilla Extract

Gluten Free Brownies Directions
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place a piece of parchment paper into an 8 X 8-inch bake dish, then spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. Sprinkle the parchment paper with Gluten Free Flour and then set aside. When baking Gluten Free foods, using parchment paper helps the food to not stick and release easily. For this recipe, using a metal pan works best over a glass one. If you have a glass one only, go ahead!
Place 2/3 cups Oil into a microwave safe measuring cup and then warm the oil in the microwave for 1 minute. Warming the oil helps to bloom the cocoa powder to help the Gluten Free Brownies bloom and become much more fudgy in flavor. If the cocoa powder doesn’t bloom in warm oil, it leaves the brownies taste powdery and not as smooth.
Remove the oil from the microwave and then add 2/3 cups Cocoa Powder and whisk together well and then set aside for 4-5 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cups Gluten Free Flour, 1/4 tsp Baking Powder, 1/2 tsp Salt and whisk well and then set aside.
In the bowl of a KitchenAid Mixer, add 3 Eggs, 1 1/3 cups Powdered Sugar and 2/3 cups Brown Sugar. Insert the paddle attachment then plug the mixer in and whisk on MEDIUM until fluffy, around 2-3 minutes. Make sure to start the mixer on LOW before working it up to a faster speed. If you don’t have a KitchenAid Mixer, a hand-held mixer works just as well.

To the mixer, add 1 tsp Gluten Free Vanilla Extract and mix on LOW until just combined. Not all Vanilla Extracts are Gluten Free! Make sure you check you labels to determine that it is truly Gluten Free. This Mexican Vanilla Extract is SOOOOO delicious! It is much stronger and more flavorful than any others that have been used in this scratch kitchen, other than my homemade from scratch batch that sadly ran out a few months ago.

Add 1/2 of the Cocoa Powder and Oil mixture and then mix on HIGH for 5 minutes. Make sure to start the mixer on LOW before speeding up the mixer to HIGH. If you start it too fast, the ingredients may splash out of the bowl. By mixing in in half you allow the cocoa to mix in well and become smooth within the batter.

Add the Gluten Free Flour mixture and then mix on LOW until just combined to prevent the flour from flying all over. Use a spatula and scrape the sides of the bowl down.

Place the baking dish into preheated oven and bake the Gluten Free Brownies for 24-30 minutes. The time depends on the oven and altitude. Check the center for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center to make sure that it comes out clean.
Remove the Gluten Free Brownies from the oven and let them rest until cool before serving. Place the pan on a hot pad to cool off. Use a large knife such as a serrated knife or chef knife to slice the brownies.
