For Thanksgiving this year, my task was to bring pies to dinner. And one cannot bring just one pie, especially when there are so many amazing different pies to make. A favorite is Pecan Pie, and in this post, I will share not only my recipe for the BEST Pecan Pie, but also a few tips on how to make it amazingly delicious.

Making pies from scratch can have an expense, especially with the cost of butter being so high. However, nothing truly compares to a good pecan pie. Below is the cost breakdown for this Pecan Pie recipe with costs in November 2022.
1 cup sugar $0.26
1/2 cup corn syrup $0.44
1 1/2-2 cups pecans $2.50
3 Tbsp melted butter $0.35
3 eggs $0.87
2 Tbsp Bourbon $0.44

The ingredient cost for one homemade pecan pie was $4.86.

To add the cost of a pie crust, which is $2.10, the cost to make a Homemade from Scratch Pecan Pie is $6.96.

Below is a Pecan Pie from ALDI, and it costs $6.29. However delicious, buying a pre-made pie crust can be hit-or-miss.
Personally, being allergic to almonds, buying anything with nuts is risky. Making it from scratch, you then have 100% control over ingredients if you too have allergies.

This Christmas, I was asked to bring the pies.
What was included was Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pecan Pie, two Pumpkin Pies, Raspberry Pie and Apple Pie.
It was a lot of pies.

I have been making pies and pie crust since back in 2015. Pie crust was one of the first recipes that I blogged. One of the first recipes that was perfected. Keep reading for my perfected pie crust recipe, that anyone can make!
Recipe
Ingredients for Pecan Pie
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 1/2-2 cups pecans
1 homemade pie crust
3 Tbsp melted butter, cooled
3 eggs
2 Tbsp Bourbon

Directions for Pecan Pie
1. Firstly, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Roll out one pie crust and lay it into the pie plate and then set aside.


3. In a medium bowl, mix together the sugar with the slightly cooled and melted butter.


4. Mix in the 1/2 cup corn syrup to the butter and sugar mixture.


5. Beat 3 eggs, then add the eggs to the ingredients in the bowl.


6. If desired, add 2 Tablespoons Bourbon to the mixture and stir well.


7. On a cutting board, dice the pecans if desired and then add them to the mixture in the bowl.


8. Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.

9. Crack an egg into a bowl and then beat it. Using a basting brush, brush the egg onto the prepared crust.

10. Bake the pie for 10 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then Lower the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the Pecan Pie for 25-40 minutes or until the pie in the center is no longer fluid but solid and just slightly jiggles.
At first, when just placing the Pecan Pie in the oven, use a Pie Crust Shield to help the crust to not burn. Once the initial 10 minutes is up and the temp lowers, remove the pie shield with a potholder and continue to bake the pie.

Finally, remove the Pecan Pie from the oven and cool completely before slicing. Enjoy!

Pecan Pie
Equipment
- 9-inch Pie Plate
Ingredients
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
- 1 1/2-2 cups Pecans chopped

- 3 Tbsp Butter melted, cooled
- 3 Eggs
- 2 Tbsp Bourbon optional
