Homemade Pretzel Bread Recipe

Recently we made pretzels as a snack, and we were desperate for a loaf of bread. An idea came to me to make pretzel bread, and this amazing deliciousness was created! Homemade Pretzel Bread was the most tender and flavorful bread that was ever baked. With the crispy top and pretzel salt, pretzel bread is our family’s new favorite bread that doesn’t break the bank.

Homemade Pretzels, Rolls and Bread

If you have ever made from scratch pretzels, then you can use the same dough to make rolls and bread. The only difference is the amount of time to cook the different recipes. Pretzels themselves take only ten minutes to bake with a few minutes under the broiler to get the quintessential pretzel finish.
Homemade Pretzel Bread is great for a lot of meal ideas. Recently, we had pretzel bread for sandwiches at a picnic and it was delicious.

Pretzel Salt Makes the Difference

A few years ago, when I made pretzels for the first time and did not have the right salt, a realization came in the form of bagged pretzels. Since my first-time making pretzels without salt, I have since collected the salt from bags of pretzel rods when we were done with them. This not only saves money, but also gives Homemade Pretzel Bread an authentic taste.

If you don’t want to smuggle salt from the bottom of your pretzel bags, you can also choose to buy pretzel salt and have it on hand.

Directions for Homemade Pretzel Bread

1. Firstly, preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Line an 8 X 4-inch loaf pan with parchment paper and then set aside. To make the parchment paper lay flat in the loaf pan, crumble it up in your hand and then smooth it out before laying it in the pan, then set aside.

3. In a large bowl, dissolve the 2 1/4 teaspoon yeast into 1 1/2 cups warm water, then stir with a whisk for 1 minute.

8. Then turn out the dough and knead 3 minutes on a lightly floured surface or in the large bowl.

9. Form the dough into a long rectangle and then lift to place it into the prepared loaf pan, pressing the dough into all of the corners.

10. Brush the egg onto the top of the pretzel loaf with a pastry brush.

11. Using a sharp knife, cut two ‘X’ shapes into each end of the pretzel loaf tops, then sprinkle with pretzel salt. Over the years, when a bag of store-bought pretzels is empty, the salt at the bottom of the bag has been collected and stored in a container. It is perfect for making Homemade Pretzels and an inexpensive way to get pretzel salt.

12. Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes, or until the loaf is brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
