S’mores are a Midwestern tradition. As spring approaches, nostalgia has taken hold and the kids and I decided that in addition to third winter, we needed a delicious dose of S’mores. Instead of warmth, we are having freezing temperatures towards the end of April, having a fire on our new patio is still not an option. However, we can make a super delicious S’mores Bars snack while we wait for true spring to start.
Cost breakdown for this recipe
As recipes go, this one is fairly inexpensive, as long as you know where to shop. To be frank, I buy 90% of our groceries at ALDI because they are literally half the cost.
12-oz Honey Graham Cereal $1.95
2 bags large Marshmallows $1.90
8 Tbsp Butter $0.73
1 cup chocolate chips $0.50
1 cup white chips $0.50
The total cost to make a batch of S’mores Bars costs $5.58.
This may seem like a large cost, but if this is a dish to pass or a fun snack, the cost is completely reasonable, especially that all of this was from ALDI.
Now, if you were to buy these ingredients name brand, it would cost $10.64. No, honest, it would cost over $10 to make this with name brand foods! That is why our family shops at ALDI…
To make a larger amount, and to spread out the marshmallows, you can add another box of Honey Graham cereal. This helps the marshmallows to spread thinner while doubling the recipe.

Why this recipe works
Sweet and salty. Is there anything more delicious? Add to that a nice and sticky melted marshmallow, and you have a dessert snack that wins everyone over.
Recently we were at my nephews first birthday party and my sister-in-law made a bar similar to these. She however, did have the mini marshmallows on hers and it was adorable. Unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy this treat.
With an almond allergy, there needs to be extra caution with what I consume. Chocolate is difficult as most say it contains “Tree Nuts”, which includes almond. To make this recipe I had to be 100% certain that the chocolate did not contain tree nuts or almond. In choosing the chocolate, a dark variety was a safer bet.
S’mores Bars Recipe
Ingredients for S’mores Bars
8 Tbsp Butter
12 oz Honey Grahams cereal
2 bags marshmallows
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips

Directions for S’mores Bars
1. Melt butter in a large pot on the stove at medium heat, stirring occasionally so the butter does not burn.

2. While the butter melted, prepare the baking sheet by placing a piece of parchment paper or wax paper on it and then set aside. I used parchment paper because we did not have wax paper which is preferred.

3. When the butter is melted, add the marshmallows and then stir until completely melted and can take anywhere between five to ten minutes.

4. Take the pot off of the stove and then add the Honey Grahams and carefully stir completely with a spatula, making sure each cereal piece is fully coated.

5. Then, using a large spatula, pour out the Honey Grahams mixture onto the prepared baking dish. You may need to scrape the S’mores out if they stay too long in the pan causing the marshmallows to cool slightly.

6. Spread out the S’mores mixture over the entire pan into an even layer with a spatula. However, with clean hands this step can be easier by pressing out the ingredients with your fingers.

7. Sprinkle chocolate chips onto the S’mores bars and then let them rest for 10 minutes. Additionally, you can also choose to place mini marshmallows on the Smores.

Cut the S’mores with a large knife and then serve and enjoy!
