Prepare the pie crust by placing it in a 9-inch pie plate, crimp the edges and then set aside.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a medium bowl, beat together 3 eggs.
To the eggs, mix in the 1 cup dark corn syrup, 1/2 cup sugar, 4 Tbsp butter, 1 cup pumpkin and 1 tsp vanilla and then beat well.
If desired, chop the pecans on a cutting board and then place them in the mixture.
Slowly pour the pumpkin-pecan mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Then crack an egg into a small bowl and beat it, then using a basting brush, brush the egg on the edges.
Place the pumpkin pecan pie into the oven and use a pie crust shield on top of the pie, then bake for 1-hour or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
Let the pie cool completely before serving to allow the filling to set, then cut and finally serve.
