Instructions
Open the bag of pinto beans and pour them in a sink colander, then rinse them well.
Doing so helps remove dirt, dust or random debris from the dried beans so they do not end up in your refried beans.
Then pour the rinsed pinto beans into the Croc-Pot.
Fill the Croc-Pot with water, making sure to leave the water line 1-2 inches below the brim.
Slice an onion in half and then remove the skin. Do not cut it up or cut off the ends.
For this recipe, the onion will stay together while the beans cook, then place both halves into the water cut side down.
Mince the garlic cloves and then put them into the water or add 1 Tablespoon garlic powder to the water.
Place the lid on the Croc-Pot and then set the temperature setting at High for 6-8 hours or Low for 8-10 hours.
When done, use a slotted spoon to scoop out all of the beans from the water into a large bowl.
Add one or both onion halves, without their crispy ends, to the bowl, these can then be blended with the pinto beans.
Use a ladle or coffee cup and then scoop 3 cups of liquid into the bowl from the Crock-Pot.
Using an immersion blender to then blend the pinto beans and onion to your desired texture.
You may need to add additional water to the beans as you blend the pinto beans to get them to blend well.
Using a ladle, scoop the refried beans into a bowl to serve immediately or scoop them into freezer safe containers for storage.
Let the Homemade Refried Beans cool completely before placing them in the fridge or freezer.
