Apple picking gives the BEST apples
This Applesauce recipe has one thing going for it, it is low on ingredients. With apples being the ONLY ingredient, make sure you pick the BEST apples for your Applesauce.
Our family went apple picking this fall and picked some great apples. Most were eaten, but some were set aside for me to make Applesauce with them.

Applesauce Ingredients
Apples
Homemade Applesauce literally has one ingredient, apples. The apples make the applesauce! Make sure you have fresh apples that haven’t been sitting in the grocery store or the back of a semi-truck for who knows how long.
Going apple picking for your applesauce apples is the BEST way to have a fresh and delicious Applesauce.

Applesauce Equipment
- Canning Pot rack
- Spatula
- Mason Jars lids, seals
- Sink Colander
- Vegetable peeler
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Apple slicer
Applesauce Directions
1. In a sink colander, rinse and wash the apples.
Keeping your food off of the sink basin is important, as sinks are filled with germs and yucky stuff that can make your sick. This sink colander expands over most sinks and is stainless steel which helps it clean easily. An added benefit is that this sink colander is dishwasher safe and can then be sanitized.
2. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skins off of the apples.
By peeling the skins off, you then help the Applesauce be lighter in color and not colored like the peels. Plus, the peels will not blend well with the sauce as it can make it lumpy and stringy.

3. On a cutting board, use a knife to cut and then dice the apples. Use an apple slicer to cut the apples down, then a knife to slice them thinner and smaller.
4. Place the diced apples into a large pot, one that is 6-Quarts or larger with a lid.

5. Cover the pot and heat to medium and then et the apples simmer on low for 3-5 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
6. Once the apples are soft, use and Emersion Blender and blend the apples. You can use a potato masher and it will make the Applesauce chunky. An Emersion Blender will make the Applesauce smooth.
7. Sanitize jars and seals, then place a canning funnel into a jar and ladle applesauce into the jars leaving 1/2-inch head space. Sanitize the jars by washing them and then running them through a dishwasher which will sanitize the jars properly.

8. Place a seal on each jar and then add the rings and close them just tight and not fully tight.

10. Place the sealed jars in the canning rack and then gently place the rack into the canning pot.
11. Simmer the applesauce jars in the canning pot for 10 minutes with the lid on.

12. Use a can lifter to remove the jars from the canning pot and transfer then to a cooling rack and allow then applesauce jars to cool and set for 24 hours.
13. Lable each jar with “Applesauce” and the date.

Store in a cool and dry place and use within 12 months. Make sure that after 24 hours, each seal popped down. Test the seal by tapping your finger on it. If you hear it snap back, the seal did not seal properly. Store the unsealed jars in the fridge. Any jars that are sealed can then be stored.
